Entrance Requirements

  • All students be eighteen (18) years of age on or before the first day of class.
  • Students must possess a High School Diploma or G.E.D Diploma.
  • Completion of the Workkeys Assessment with the following minimum scores:      
    1. Reading for Information: 4
    2. Applied Mathematics: 4
    3. Locating Information: 4
  • An interview with the Admissions Advisor to review the Workkeys score, complete the enrollment packet, and review school policies and courses.

Registration Requirements

VOLT Institute studentsStudents must register in person with the admissions officer.

  • Valid ID ( current driver’s license, State ID, or passport)
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. certificate
  • Initial payment for registration and tuition fees (we accept cashier’s check, money orders, and credit cards).
    • Students who have a private student loan should bring documentation of such when registering.
    • Students participating in a government-funded or an employer-paid-training should bring documentation and/or advice VOLT staff when registering. Additional documentation will be required.
    • Upon enrollment appointment, the $40.00 non-refundable registration fee is due.

Class Schedule

The total hours of each program vary and are dependent upon curriculum.

  • Morning classes are scheduled Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m
  • Afternoon classes are scheduled Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
  • Evening classes are scheduled Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Career
  • Accelerator Program is Mondays from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. OR 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

Career Accelerator Program

VOLT Institute studentsThe Career Accelerator Program (CAP) is designed to provide business and career readiness skills for the workplace. It leads students through a variety of settings including: emotional intelligence, professionalism, customer service, effective communication, conflict resolution, OSHA, standardized work, business fundamentals, basic blueprint reading and interpreting charts and graphs, technology literacy, and critical thinking. In addition, this program will cover manufacturing basics with Lean Manufacturing, Material Management, Total Productive Maintenance, Six Sigma, and more.

Industrial Maintenance Mechanic

VOLT’s Industrial Maintenance Mechanic training is designed to provide hands-on training on industrial systems and equipment. It guides a student from the basics of print reading, fasteners and machine tools through proper installation, repair, and maintenance of pumps, mechanical drives, pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Safe welding and torching techniques are covered as well as electrical theory and circuits applicable to mechanical systems. In addition, this program will cover centrifugal, diaphragm and piston pumps, chain, belt and gear drives, welding and machining technology, electrical systems, pneumatics and hydraulics, fluid power systems, valves, actuators and bearing applications, and more. There are three session offered: 

Session One: Mechanical Drives                                                                                    

Session Two: Pumps/Pneumatics/Electrical                                                               

Session Three:  Machine Tools/ Rigging/ Welding


Pre-Apprenticeship Construction Training Program

NCCT studentsThe program is designed to prepare students for work in the construction industry through training in the classroom and on jobsites.  All instruction will be performed by journey level Carpenter.  The program is also designed to increase each student’s academic competency to prepare the student for apprenticeship entry exams and to handle the demands of the apprenticeship training process. During this six months program, skills that will be taught include:

  • Use of Construction Terms, Tools, and Equipment
  • General Safety on the Job
  • Measurement/Basic Blueprint Reading

PCA course studentThe PCA course is a certification program to help jump start your career in the Home Care field. The training is designed for those who have the passion, but not the skills to care for individuals. It’s also useful to those who have been working in a Home Care setting and would like to increase their level of knowledge and skills.
This training is designed to prepare individuals to become Certified Personal Care Attendants.  The program is a combination of hands on training, lecture, and instructional videos.  The content is based on essential care skills, professional skills, and responsibilities that form the basis of Personal Care Attendant work. In addition, the training program covers cultural competence, Alzheimer’s, Elder Abuse, among other topics as well. Upon completion of the PCA program students will be well trained in all levels of Home Care, such as: bathing, grooming, incontinent care, transfer assistance, vital signs, meal preparation, and more.

Requirements

  • 18 years of age

  • Negative TB Test
  • Pass Drug Screening

Job Placement

The job placement program is designed to help students jump start their career as a Personal Care Attendant. To qualify you must register on the State of California Caregiver background check Bureau (DOJ clearance), have a current negative TB reading, and pass a Drug Screen.  You will interview with Provident Care case managers as well. If you meet all requirements, sponsorship is available to pay the course fee. You are responsible for State registration and TB testing. If accepted into the job placement program you will be required to commit to at least 20 hours a week for a six month period before a certification.
